Green Hotels: Do We Need Rewards to Shape Green Performance?

Green Rewards, Green Performance Management, Organizational Citizenship Behavior for The Environment, Employee Role in Green Performance.Abstract
This study attempted to examine the scant evidence relating green rewards and green performance management in the hotel industry, as well as the organizational citizenship behavior on environmental outcomes. Findings show that green awards are ineffective in encouraging green performance from employees if they are not accompanied with suitable monetary rewards. Supporting environmental activities in the hospitality industry requires both monetary and non-monetary green benefits. Green awards and green performance management can more effectively motivate employees to play their roles in green performance if they are mediated by organizational citizenship behavior for the environment at work.
